With 40% of the active roster on the sideline in street clothes, the Golden Eagles did not have enough against a quick, hard hitting Truman team, losing at home 26-20 in the 2009 season opener.

Playing its first three level team since 2004, Springfield looked as if they belonged in the division, scoring three plays into the game on an 11 yards TD by Emanuel Evans (15 carries, 112 yards, 2 TDs). The Golden Eagles looked prepared to upset the Mustangs, but blew 2 different leads in the game. Injuries and poor special teams played a huge role in Springfield's failure to maintain their lead against Truman, who capitalized off of countless Golden Eagles gaffes.

Kyle Martin added 87 yards rushing on 11 carries, including a 64 yard score late in the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles are not scheduled to play in Week 2 of the PSAL schedule and return to action on September 18 at Beach Channel, who lost 34-16 to FDR.
